[ARCHIVED] Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health to Provide Free COVID-19 Testing

Department of Health trailer outside Bismarck-Burleigh Public HealthStarting Monday, June 22, 2020, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health will be offering COVID-19 testing on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health parking lot at 500 E Front Avenue. Testing will be done via walk-up/drive-up on a first come, first served basis. Staff will be operating out of a trailer provided by the North Dakota Department of Health. Testing will be open to anyone wanting a COVID-19 test. There are no appointments necessary.

“We look forward to offering this service for our community,” said Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health Director, Renae Moch. “We continue to receive requests from the community for COVID-19 testing from both organizations and individuals, so the need is out there. Providing regularly scheduled testing dates and times will assist us in managing these test requests and allow for the most efficient use of staff time,” Moch said. “If we have small groups requesting COVID-19 testing, they could utilize our regularly scheduled testing times rather than having to make special arrangements. Regularly scheduled testing dates and times will be convenient for the public, giving them access to testing without worrying about cost or scheduling an appointment.”

Individuals experiencing COVID-19 related symptoms or are close and/or household contacts of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, should call Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health at (701) 355-1540 upon arrival and remain inside their vehicle. Public Health staff will come to your vehicle for testing. Individuals who may have mobility issues are also encouraged to call 355-1540 for accommodations.

This testing opportunity is a pandemic response effort coordinated between Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health and the North Dakota Department of Health. The North Dakota Department of Health is providing testing kits for Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health staff who will perform the testing via oropharyngeal swab.

“Our goal in providing this service is to provide a consistent opportunity for testing for anyone who wants a test,” said SWC Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator, Crystalynn Kuntz. “Offering testing a few days a week, gives people options to accommodate what works best for them.”

Testing is a tool to assist in COVID-19 response efforts, but we must remember this is a point-in-time test. Just because someone tests negative at the time of the test doesn’t mean they could not be positive the next day. Preventive measures are still important to slow the spread.

For ongoing response efforts to the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Dakota Department of Health has provided a COVID-19 Hotline to help answer questions. You may call 1-866-207-2880, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Individuals with medical advice should contact their healthcare provider.

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health will be providing social media messaging leading up to, and during the testing events. You can connect with Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For more info about COVID-19, visit the ND Department of Health website, NDResponse.gov, or CDC website.
