On August 20, 2019, five Bismarck firefighters are scheduled to complete their 12-month probationary period. Their introduction to the Bismarck Fire Department began with a rigorous 7-week fire academy, after which they were on assignment to one of the department’s three duty shifts. Over the probationary year these firefighters have successfully completed multiple job certification requirements, to include: Fire Fighter 1, Emergency Medical Technician, HAZMAT Awareness and Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, Auto Extrication, Courage to be Safe, and Incident Command System 100/200/700.

Meet five new Bismarck Firefighters:

Chad Dodds – Chad came to the BFD with experience in wildland firefighting and spent four years with the North Dakota Air National Guard. He received a Fire Service Preparation Certificate from Moorhead State Community and Technical College. Chad recently worked for Canadian Pacific Railway.

Adam Emter – Adam was a member of the Steel Fire & Rescue Department and he volunteered for the Kidder County Ambulance, prior to the BFD. He has a Bachelor degree in History/Political Science and Public Administration from Jamestown College. He has also operated his own small business, building homes. 

Sam Krivoruchka – Sam came to the BFD with no prior firefighting experience. He has experience teaching and working with youth, especial those with special needs. Recently he worked for Community Options as an Outreach Specialist.

Jared Bosch –Jared was a lieutenant with the Bismarck Airport Fire Department before starting with the BFD. He has a Fire Science Technology degree from Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks, MN. He spent two years working for the Standing Rock Ambulance Service.

Justin Schwab – Justin came to the BFD with no prior firefighting experience. He has an Associate degree in Process Plant Technology and a Bachelor degree in Science-Energy Management from Bismarck State College. He has work experience with an energy company, in banking, and he has also worked as an insurance agent.
