[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to kitchen fire.

At approximately 3:49 AM on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of smoke coming from a building on the 300 block of South 3rd Street. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew established command and conducted a scene size-up. The fire crew reported a single story restaurant with smoke showing from the roof and a small amount of smoke inside the building.

The fire crew laddered the roof and found light smoke coming from a roof-top kitchen vent. Additional fire units arrived on scene and gained access to the interior of the building. Fire crews found fire in an oven in the kitchen area of the restaurant. The fire was extinguished and an overhaul operation was conducted to confirm that the fire was out. When the overhaul operation was complete and the building ventilated of smoke, the scene was handed over to the restaurant management.

Five fire department apparatus and 13 firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support. Damage caused by the fire was limited to the kitchen area of the restaurant. The restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters or other first responders. The fire occurred in an oven that was left on to keep two containers of food warm overnight. The cause of this fire has been classified as accidental.
