[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department responds to second backyard fire this week.

At approximately 7:05 AM on Thursday, May 31, 2018, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a report of a fence on fire at a house on the 1200 block of West Avenue A. The Bismarck Fire Department was dispatched to investigate. The first arriving fire crew reported a wood pile and fence on fire in the back yard of a single family home.

The fire crew deployed a fire attack hose line and completed the extinguishment. An additional fire unit arrived on scene and assisted in extinguishment and overhaul. Three fire department apparatus and eight firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Damage caused by the fire was limited to the area of the wood pile and the adjacent fence. The homeowner was at home at the time of the fire. There were no injuries to the building’s occupants or firefighters. The cause of the fire has been determined to be accidental.

The Bismarck Fire Department would like to remind residents to use caution if you smoke or plan a recreational fire that includes charcoal grills, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, or chimeneas. Never leave a fire unattended. Thoroughly douse the fire with water after use to ensure the ashes are cool. Do not use your fire pit, chiminea, outdoor fire place, or charcoal grill when it is windy or during Very High, Extreme or Red Flag fire conditions.
