[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Burn Ban Lifted

The Bismarck Fire Department would like to thank the residents of Bismarck for their cooperation and patience during the burn ban that was implemented April 1, in conjunction with the statewide burn ban issued by Governor Dalrymple. With improved fire conditions in the area and across the state, the burn ban expired at midnight on May 8.

Bismarck residents are allowed to use portable fire pits, fireplaces and chimineas. The Bismarck Fire Department would like to encourage everyone to be safe when using any recreational fire appliance or grill and follow these guidelines:

• Have a fire safety plan.
• Placed the appliance at least 15 feet from any combustibles.
• Have a fire extinguisher or water hose available at all times.
• Do not be placed appliance on wood decks, used on or in enclosed patio decks, or under overhangs.
• Do not burn garbage, leaves, rubbish, or rotten wood that will smoke.
• Use a spark arrestor screen while being used to control sparks and embers when provided with the unit.
• Be aware of wind and weather conditions before you use your fire pit/chiminea.
• Keep children and pets away.
• Do NOT leave a fire unattended!
• Make sure that the fire is out before you leave after you have finished enjoying its use.
• Never discard ashes into a combustible container or garbage receptacle. Place them in a metal container first and wet them thoroughly with water.
• Be considerate of your neighbors. If the fire is creating excessive smoke, you will be asked to extinguish it.

Recreational fires in Bismarck are regulated and include: chimineas, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and portable outdoor fireplaces. These fires are limited to a total fuel area of 3’ diameter x 2’ height. If a Red Flag Warning has been issued for our area, we ask that you refrain from using your appliance until after the warning has expired and conditions have improved.
