[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Police Use New Tools to Reduce Speeding Complaints

The Bismarck Police Department has some new equipment to help reduce speeders and speeding complaints.

In July they began using a speed trailer and speed sign. This portable equipment is designed to be placed in high traffic areas where speeding is a common complaint. The unmanned speed sign gives drivers immediate feedback by showing the speed they are going, helps focus their attention on the speed limit and helps reduce the number of speed related incidents. And at times there may be more than just the speed trailer/sign there..... there may be an officer actually running radar as well.

Both the speed sign and speed trailer have a data collector that logs the time and speed of each vehicle that passes through the location. The department will be able to use that data when planning enforcement action and to better identify problem areas.

The speed trailer has been used on several occasions and the department plans to use it where they receive a number of speeding complaints.
