[ARCHIVED] City Opens a Third Manned Sandbag Site

A third manned sandbag site is now open in the city.

“Sandbag Charlie” is now operational at 521 South 22nd Street (the old Bobcat building). A sandbag machine is on site, to make filling the sandbags a faster process. Volunteers are needed to help at this site. This site will be open 24 hours a day, providing there are enough staff and volunteers available to keep it running.

The best way to access this site is south on 19th street to Indiana Avenue, then east to 22nd Street. 22nd Street takes you right to the sandbag site.

Volunteers are still also needed at the other sandbag sites in the city. Those sites are as follows:
• Missouri Valley Fairgrounds (3805 E. Bismarck Expressway) - open 24 hours a day.
• Sandbag Central South Northern Plains Commerce Center (1901 Northern Plains Drive) - open 24 hours a day.
• Ash Coulee Water Tower, West of Washington Street on Ash Coulee Drive
• Santa Fe Avenue, Cottonwood Complex west of South 12th Street
• Whispering Bay Subdivision, Shoreline Circle
• 48th Avenue and Sibley Drive (this site was previously located at Sibley Drive and Hester Drive)
• Ponderosa Park
• Hogue Road

Volunteers are asked to bring a shovel and gloves. Volunteers must register before they begin filling sandbags. Parental consent is required for those under age 18. Consent forms are available at both Sandbag Central and Sandbag Central South. You can also download the consent form at www.bismarck.org.
