[ARCHIVED] Love Your Heart, Love Your Community: BBPH to Provide FREE BP Screenings August 10 at BisMarket

BISMARCK, N.D. – Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is providing FREE blood pressure screenings in the community on Saturday, August 10 during BisMarket, your community farmers market, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., located along Sweet Avenue at Kiwanis Park/Municipal Ballpark, 318 S Washington St., Bismarck.

Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in North Dakota and kill over 800,000 Americans each year. Nearly one in three North Dakota adults have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. High blood pressure often goes undetected and may not be properly controlled. It’s the nation’s number one killer among both men and women and the leading cause of health disparities across the population.

Fortunately, there are steps to take to prevent and screen for high blood pressure for heart disease prevention.

Steps you can take for a healthy heart include:

  • Be active
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
  • Reduce sodium consumption
  • Limit your intake of alcohol
  • Quit smoking
  • Cut back on caffeine
  • Reduce your stress

Your health is important. Join us on Saturday, August 10th to receive a free blood pressure check. If you have questions, please call us at 355-1555 or visit www.bismarcknd.gov/publichealth.
