PROCLAMATION

Whereas, First Nations Day recognizes Bismarck and the surrounding community's indigenous peoples and their unique role in shaping the history and culture of our city, as well as the history and culture of this nation; and


Whereas, the American Indian people continue to play a vital and integral role in shaping the future of our city, state and nation by making important and distinctive contributions to our culture and society; and

 

Whereas, American Indian people, tribal governments, colleges and businesses play a critical role in strengthening their communities and growing Bismarck's economy; and


Whereas, the City of Bismarck affirms the work of the North Dakota Tribal and State Relations Committee and is continuing to develop and strengthen city and tribal partnerships; and

 

Whereas, on First Nations Day and throughout Native American Heritage Month, we reflect on the significance of the U.S. Constitution and all it represents - justice, equality and the preservation of liberty for all Americans; and


Whereas, citizens of Bismarck are encouraged to commemorate the long-standing, cooperative relationships formed among tribal nations and the City of Bismarck and to support the continued fostering of these important partnerships as we work toward a shared future of growth and success.


Therefore, Be it Resolved, I do hereby proclaim October 5, 2018, FIRST NATIONS DAY, and November 2018, NATIVE AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH in the City of Bismarck.
