[ARCHIVED] CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY

The Bismarck Police Department held graduation ceremonies for the third Citizen Police Academy class on December 9, 2010. The department began offering the academy in January of 2009.

The purpose of the Citizen Police Academy is to allow the public to experience the many aspects of police work first hand. The academy consists of a series of classes taught by members of the Bismarck Police Department. In addition, students receive hands on training as well. One goal in providing the academy is to help participants to better understand the operational responsibilities that all members of the police department undertake on a daily basis. Classes meet one night a week for ten weeks. The latest graduating class was the largest with 20 students. It is anticipated that the next class will be held in the fall of 2011.

The application process is ongoing and any one interested in finding out more about the academy or filling out an application may do so by going to the Bismarck Police Department website or by calling the Police Department at 223-1212.
