[ARCHIVED] Bismarck Fire Department Urges Citizens to Use Caution with Recreational Fires-Fire Index Very High

In response to the extremely dry weather conditions that have created a serious fire threat, the Bismarck Fire Department asks citizens to refrain from the use of recreational fires when the fire danger rating is designated in the high, very high, or extreme categories and/or when a Red flag warning has been issued for the area. When the fire danger rating is in the low to moderate category, recreational fires are allowed within the city limits.

The fire danger index for Monday, April 13, 2015 is: VERY HIGH.
The Very High rating means: Fires spread rapidly and show erratic behavior. Dangerous burning conditions exist.

Recreational fires in Bismarck are regulated and include: chimineas, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, and portable outdoor fireplaces. These fires are limited to a total fuel area of 3’ diameter x 2’ height.

Please check the fire danger rating each day by going to: www.weather.gov/bis/fire We ask for the cooperation of residents to refrain from the use of recreational fires and to use common sense when weather conditions are windy and dry.
