[ARCHIVED] City of Bismarck Reminds Property Owners About Control of Weeds and Tall Grasses

The City of Bismarck reminds citizens that it is the property owner’s responsibility to cut tall grass and weeds growing on their property. The ordinance requires at a minimum, all property shall be mowed by June 1, mowed again by July 15 and, if necessary, mowed again by September 1 of each year to comply with the provisions of this chapter. The Environmental Health Administrator may order more frequent cuttings of tall grass and weeds if necessary for compliance with this chapter and such notice may be given in person, via telephone or by letter. The ordinance requires that tall grass and weeds 8 inches high be controlled. The Environmental Health Division will not be informing property owners to cut tall grass and weeds on their property unless additional control measures are necessary during the periods or dates specified in the ordinance. Property owners are encouraged to make arrangements for cutting tall grass and weeds prior to the dates identified in the ordinance. In addition, the ordinance change will help keep the undesirable weeds and grasses from going to seed and become more manageable. Property owners are urged to make preparations to control tall grass and weeds on their property to avoid charges for services provided by the Environmental Health Division. All bills issued by the Environmental Health Division for these services will be accompanied with a service fee.
