[ARCHIVED] Twenty-Four Hour Access for Southport Residents

Starting today Southport residents will be allowed access to their homes 24 hours per day.

The Bismarck Police Department will continue to man the access points on Riverwood Drive near the golf course to allow only authorized personnel into Southport. As a reminder, only residents with a current ID or those personnel with an ID card issued by the Bismarck PD will be allowed to enter Southport after 9:00 pm.

The traffic control points at the “plug” adjacent to the Pier will not be manned after 9:00 pm.
The causeway at Mills Avenue will be closed for safety purposes from 9:00 pm to 6 a.m. daily.

On Friday, July 1, at 7 am, a Stop sign was placed on the North and South side of the “plug” on Riverwood Drive; a Stop sign was also placed for Eastbound traffic on Southport Loop. Due to limited visibility for vehicles traveling East on Southport Loop, eastbound traffic is being directed South on Riverwood Drive. A Right Turn Only sign was placed at the intersection of Southport Loop and Riverwood Drive forcing Eastbound traffic to turn South on Riverwood Drive.

Traffic attempting to go North should follow the turn-around point signs to Clipper Place and utilize that cul-de-sac to turn around and proceed North on Riverwood Drive. This traffic control measure was implemented for safety reasons to regulate North and Southbound traffic over the “plug”. Much of this area is single lane traffic and drivers are encouraged to use caution. Drivers are also encouraged to obey the newly implemented 15 mph speed limit signs. This area will continue to be patrolled by the Bismarck Police Department and the 15 mps speed limit will be enforced.
