Project Sticker Shock
Williquors
Burleigh Morton Behavioral Health Student Committee teamed up with Williquors to reduce underage drinking to reduce underage drinking. This project is an environmental strategy that addresses the underage drinking concerns in our community. Underage drinking is a community concern and the most effective way to address it is through community involvement and participation.
This project gives youth a voice in addressing the problem of the availability of alcohol to minors and allows them to take an active role in reducing the problem by allowing them to place stickers on bags and each sticker has a message.
The messages:
- “Do you know the law? Providing alcohol to a minor may result in fines up to $3,000 and 365 days in jail.”
- “Thank you for keeping this out of the hands of minors”
**The fine for providing alcohol to a minor changed from $2,000 to $3,000. These stickers at the time of the event did not represent the change.
BisMan Community Food Co-op
Burleigh Morton Behavioral Health Student Committee teamed up with BisMan Community Food Co-op to reduce underage drinking. This project is an environmental strategy that addresses the underage drinking concerns in our community. - “Parents are the #1 reason kids don’t drink. It starts at home. Talk early. Talk often.”
- “Could their next drink be right next to the milk?”
High School Sports Events
Burleigh Morton Behavioral Health Student Committee, consisting of students from Bismarck High School, Legacy High School and Mandan High School have each been working on doing Project Sticker Shocks at their home sport events.
This Project is a community-based aimed at working together to create a safer, healthier lifestyle, to reduce underage drinking. This project permits youth to have a voice in addressing the problem of availability of alcohol to minors and allows them to take an active role in reducing the problem.
