Bismarck Tobacco Free Coalition
The Bismarck Tobacco Free coalition has promoted change with tobacco marketing practices and the need for individuals to breathe smoke-free air through advocacy, policy change, and community mobilization. Since 1992, Bismarck has passed three ordinances which address the easy access of tobacco by minors and two ordinances for the protection of public health from secondhand smoke. The ordinances have the following provisions:
A. Restrict placement of tobacco vending machines
B. Restrict self-service displays of tobacco products
C. Provide for graduated penalties, including fines and license suspension/revocation for repeated illegal tobacco sales.
D. Regulate smoking in public places and places of employment.
E. Increase the age to 21 purchasing all tobacco products including e-cigarettes in City of Bismarck and Lincoln.
Mission
The Bismarck Tobacco Free Coalition is a pro-active organization dedicated to promoting a healthy, tobacco free environment.
Vision
Our community will be tobacco free.

WHO we are
The Bismarck Break Free Youth Board is a group of high school students that actively work together to educate their peers and local elementary youth about tobacco prevention issues that impact school systems, communities, and the state of North Dakota.
WHAT we do
Break Free youth focus on raising awareness to their peers about tobacco free policy change that directly affects our generation at the local, statewide, and educational level. This is accomplished through advocacy and leadership opportunities such as the annual Youth Action Summit, Peer-to-Peer and Community Member Presentations, and School-wide Activism on Tobacco Prevention Holidays.
Interested in starting your own BFYB Chapter? For more information, please contact Susan Kahler, SAP Coordinator at 701.355.1597 or email skahler@bismarcknd.gov.
