The City of Bismarck has adopted a new Mechanical Licensing Exam based on the 2015 International Mechanical Code and 2015 International Fuel Gas Code. This exam will allow reciprocity with the municipalities of Grand Forks, Fargo, and Minot.
Those who have tested before July 1, 2017 are not required to retest and will be able to work at their current class and discipline within the City of Bismarck jurisdiction under the City’s Mechanical Legacy license. Any Legacy License holder wishing to work outside the City jurisdiction or move to a new class and/or discipline will be required to complete the new exam.
Additional information can be found in Title 4-10 of the City of Bismarck Code of Ordinances.
The City will provide 2015 IMC and 2015 IFGC books, calculators, and writing tools for use during the exam.
Due to limited space, all exam applications are due the first business day of the month. Once practical experience has been verified, applicants will be contacted by the Building Inspections Division.
