The Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) provides a forum for public officials, citizens, and other interested groups to establish policies and plans for effectively addressing various metropolitan transportation issues. The MPO is comprised of five jurisdictions including: Bismarck, Lincoln, Mandan, and portions of Burleigh and Morton counties.
The Bismarck-Mandan MPO is one of three MPOs in the state of North Dakota. In addition to transportation planning efforts, the MPO must also develop and regularly update a Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), a Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), and a Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP). More information about the preceding documents can be found on the MPO Publications section of the MPO web-page.
The Bismarck-Mandan MPO has recently commissioned the Northeast Bismarck Subarea Study
to develop more detailed plans for future investment in transportation infrastructure in the Northeast Bismarck Subarea, a 12 square mile area bounded by 84th Avenue to the north, I-94 to the south, Centennial Road on the west, and 66th Street on the east.
